Perry Travels to Iraq

Governor Rick Perry met with Texas troops Tuesday while on a U.S. Department of Defense trip to Iraq.

Perry says Texans are at work defending the countrys freedom and are doing an extraordinary job.

Perry says hes encouraged by the progress on the ground and is hopeful that the U.S. will uphold its commitment to the Iraqi people to ensure they are prepared to maintain order.

Perry says Iraq has changed since he was there in 2006, adding it feels much safer, more orderly and farther along the path to liberty than before.

Perry also presented Iraq Campaign Medals to six Texas guardsmen during a ceremony in Iraq Tuesday.

Washington Governor Christine Gregoire and New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine joined Perry on the trip.
