Prepared for Abilene's Winter Clean

By: Alisa Hail
Updated: January 7, 2009
The City of Abilene has a new slogan when it comes to cleaning up our city streets: "Keeping it Clean in Abilene."

Abilene's Solid Wastes Services alley collection crews are diligently collecting trash in an effort to help citizens keep Abilene a beautiful, trash free, environment.

Collections have already begun on North 1st street and will continue in an eastern direction between Treadaway and the Abilene city limits for the remainder of the week.

Next week, crews will begin at South 1st street and head west toward the city limits.

Citizens should be sure to be prepared when the crews come by; this includes bagging trash since loose trash only creates litter.

For specific information on the current whereabouts of city cleanup crews, check the Abilene website at:

http://www.abilenetx.com/SolidWasteServices/.

Groups interested in tending to the Abilene environment may contact the Keep Abilene Beautiful program in order to adopt a spot, highway, alley, or any patch of land that may need a helping hand.

Interested parties may contact KAB at 325 - 734 - 3301.

If any citizen is in need of paint, insecticides, pesticides or a number of other products, the Abilene Environmental Recycling Center (ERC) has a free Product Exchange Program.

This program is open Thursday through Sunday every week.

Teachers in need of craft items for classrooms may come by the ERC's Teacher's Locker program, which is open every day.

The ERC is open 9:30a.m. to 4:45p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Sundays 1p.m. to 4:45p.m. for any citizens who wants to make even a small effort to "Keep Abilene Beautiful."
