Comfort in Suffering

The loss of a loved one is difficult for anyone to endure, but what if you had to see people go through the pain everyday?
Kevin Bridges loves spending his day truly making a difference in peoples lives.
"Many people when they hear me say that I'm a chaplain, they say oh I could never do that," comments Chaplain Bridges, "but it is really a privilege to be present with families in those times and to get to know those people, to hear those stories."
Most of Bridges' day is spent making rounds and visiting families and praying with them.
On any given day you can find him in the hallways at Hendrick Medical center, supporting those who are going through a tough time.
Bridges says he doesn't have the answer to why people go through pain, but he is there to comfort them along the way.
"The question of suffering isn't one I can solve for them," say Bridges, "and really I kind of join them in asking together, which is about helping them explore their faith and helping them make meaning, and come to a new understanding about whats happening to them or what has happened to them and where they go from here."
The feeling he gets from his job is what keeps him coming back each and every day.
"I guess whats neat is that at the end of the day, I find great fulfillment in knowing that I've done something; that I have made a difference today and countless people tell you that you have made my day.
