A successful test flight from Houstons Bush Intercontinental Airport used a mix of conventional jet fuel and biofuels. The Continental Airlines Boeing 737-800 conducted a series of tests during a wide swing in the skies over the Gulf of Mexico.
The tests included a midflight engine shutdown and restart, and power accelerations and decelerations.
The only people on board the jet were the pilot and co-pilot.
The hope is biofuels will gain widespread acceptance in three to five years.
