Updated: January 9, 2009
Abilene will soon have a new Library on the North side of town.

The new branch will be located on North 12th Street and Mockingbird Lane.

The Friends of the Abilene Public Library are mostly responsible for the new addition; raising $594,000 in order to pay for the construction, as well as providing all furnishings and books.

The new library will contain 7 computers, one of which is equipped with a key-board designed for the visually impaired; a quiet study area, and an activity room for story-time.

All-in-all, the library will house over 13,000 books, 4,000 DVDs, and 1,000 audio books.

The grand opening will take place Saturday, January 10th at 11a.m. which will include food, prizes, entertainment, and free library cards.

The entertainment will include a juggler, and Cooper High School musicians.
