Jan. 9 Update
With a new year, there are some new plans for our local schools.

"We looked at lots of different things. We narrowed it down to four things, facility, security, technology, and a career high school, Tim Lancaster, chair of the Critical Needs Task Force said.

The AISD created a Critical Needs Task Force consisting of various members from the community who all made recommendations for our schools and overall educational programs.

"These were the things we saw were really critical to our school district. Not only for today but for the future," Tim Lancaster added.

While College Heights and Fanin Elementary have been separate schools for over half a century, they might be sharing one campus in the future.

"After we looked at some of the conditions of those two schools, we think it'll be a much improved environment for those students and yes, no one ever wants to leave, probably a school they've been a part of but we think really for the long term it'll be a better environment for the students and for the teachers," Tim Lancaster said.

"If we merge the two schools, we'll me able to use each others resources and it will cut down on costs, being able to use each others resources and share things and bounce ideas off of other teachers," Kristin Copeland, a Fannin Elementary School teacher said.

While everything the Task Force discussed are merely recommendations, there are no definite plans. There will be an opportunity for the public to share their opinions on all of the suggestions that the Task Force has put together.
