A U.S. Army member is dead and four others injured after a Blackhawk helicopter crashed during a training exercise on the Texas A&M campus Monday afternoon.
The helicopter crashed shortly after lift-off at Duncan Field.
University President Elsa Murano says her thoughts and prayers go to the crew members involved in the tragedy, and especially to the family and friends of the crew member who died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Murano says students, faculty, staff and local residents were never in imminent danger.
The helicopter was participating with 190 members of the schools Corps of Cadets in ROTC Winter Field Training Exercises.
