Early ISD Random Drug Testing

By: Laura Kellerman
Updated: January 13, 2009
Early ISD is expanding the number of students who can be tested for drugs.

"This program has been established to give students who face daily pressure from their peers to experiment with alcohol and drugs a good reason not to," states the district policy.

Students in grades 7 through 12 who participate in extracurricular activities and students in grades 9 through 12 who obtain a parking permit which allows them to drive and park their cars at school will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Parents also have the option of volunteering their children for the random testing pool.

There will be an informational meeting for parents Thursday at 6 p.m. at Early High School to discuss the new policy.

Each year the Board of Trustees will decide what percentage of students from the pool will be tested.  They could decide to test 100%.
