Rep. Susan King Says the Economy Could Take A Toll

Today, the Texas Capitol was flooded with everyone from politicians to mariachi band members, getting a glimpse of what's to come for Texas Legislature.

Along with the 150 Representatives, Republican Representative Joe Straus, from San Antonio, was sworn in as the new Speaker of the House.

At the session, the Representatives bring bills and proposed laws to the meetings, where they could potentially be sent on to become laws.

One topic the session will discuss will be the current state of the economy.

"We're ranking really, really high as an overall business-inviting type of state, and people want to keep it that way," said Representative Susan King.

And Representative King says the struggling economy could influence some voter's decision.

"Things that are not seen as absolutely necessary, people will be tending to not push" Representative King said. "However, there again in a diverse group like this, you know geographically, demography-wise, people see that as a different thing."
