Excitement filled the State Capitol Tuesday as state representatives, their families, and fellow Texans gathered to witness the legislative session set sail.

The day started with opening ceremonies where lawmakers were sworn in, and now, they're planning on getting down to business.

“I think we'll just have to be very conservative and careful and weigh what we need to spend money on," said State Representative Susan King of Abilene, District 71.

With the messy economy that surrounds our country, Texans are anxious to see what's to come of the lonestar state.

"We are one of the top state for bringing in business in the country," said King.

You might be wondering how issues of the economy will factor into this year's legislative session.

Despite the overall economic hard time through the country, State Representative King has a positive outlook for our economy here in Texas.

“I'd say we're ranking really high as an overall business inviting type of state and people want to keep it that way," added King.

While the House of Representative has predominately been made up of republicans in the past, there are many more democrats on board this time around. This will likely lead to a more diverse vote across the House.

The session lasts for the next 140 days.
