Luis Barrientes was sentenced to life in prison for killing his girlfriend, Cindy Cortinez, back in August of 2007.

Witnesses were called to the stand today to talk about Luis Barrientez and his actions the night that Cindy Cortinez died.

Barrientez's brother, Jesus Jessie Barrientes, testified about the August night when Luis and his girlfriend Cindy got into an argument where it ended with Barrientes killing her.

Emotions spilled over into the courtroom and extra deputies had to be called in to stop the arguing.

Cortinez was last seen leaving Linda's Lounge in 2007 with Barrientes.

Witnesses at the lounge recalled that Cortinez was crying when she left, claiming that her boyfriend beat her.

Cortinez was found dead in a car on the north side of Abilene.
