AISD Critical Needs Task Force have findings that could improve the district. One of their focuses is revisiting the idea of consolidating College Heights and Fannin Elementary.

The consolidation is estimated to cost the district about $11 million.

The possible merger of College Heights Elementary and Fannin Elementary have parents talking about all the opportunities.

Many parents we spoke with like the idea of having the two schools together.

Marcie Munoz has one daughter currently at College Heights and says the idea is great and at the same time of it being cost efficient, it will also prepare her daughter to be in a bigger school before heading off to middle school. She also says that with the way the world is changing and technology, students can benefit from having a newer school and hopefully new technology in the classrooms.

College Heights Principal Gustavo Villanueva says, he also likes the idea because it will benefit the students and the community. He also says that change is hard especially since College Heights is a neighborhood school but in the end it will be better off for the children.

Meanwhile, Kim Farmer, Principal at Fannin agrees with Villanueva. She says it's all for the best interest of the students. "It's hard to move, it's hard to change but it's not the building that makes a school, it's the people and AISD have some really great people," said Farmer.

The consolidation of College Heights Mustangs and Fannin Cheetahs is all up to the school board once the Critical Needs Task Force present its findings to them.

The next public forum will be held Thursday, January, 15 at 7 p.m. at Bowie Elementary.
