The balance of power in the U.S. Senate hasnt settled from 2008 yet, but you can toss a Texas seat into the 2010 mix already.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison sought to dispel any doubt of her intentions to run against Gov. Rick Perry in an interview with the Dallas Morning News yesterday. Said Hutchison: "I think I can help Texas now and take our state into the real areas that need to have leadership."

Theres genuine concern among the GOP leadership in Washington that a veto-proof, 60 vote Democratic majority would eliminate any real Republican power in the upper chamber.

Bailey says the mathematics in the Senate are going to change more by next year and that - quoting - "I think that one spot is not going to make a difference."

She told the newspaper that shes already put $1 million from her Senatorial campaign into a gubernatorial account - and that she wouldnt resign her seat until the end of the year, at the earliest.
