A lengthy high speed chase led police all across Abilene and other parts of the Big Country.

It began at the 3300 block of S. Treadaway around 6:30 Thursday evening.  The suspect is a black middle-aged male wearing a red shirt.  He robbed a woman's purse, then car-jacked a 2008 silver GMC Yukon.  The driver then led police on a chase winding around south Abilene, then onto winters freeway, and headed north onto Interstate 20.  He drove back and forth several times on I-20, then led police between pine street, down 277, then back into Abilene on Treadaway.  That was where police called off the pursuit because of the danger brought o other drivers.

Police located the suspect at the 1400 block of Mesquite St. and attempted to trap him near a residence.  The driver rammed into several cars and escaped down a back alley.  The pursuit picked up again, heading into Callahan County.

Police captured the suspect just after 9:00 and had him in custody in Eastland.

Police say the suspect is from Colorado City.  He is being held in the Callahan County jail.
