Early ISD Drug Testing Begins Soon

While the adults were enthusiastic, the students had something else on their mind, they were concerned about the invasion of privacy.
District officials believe these students should not be worried about the drug tests being invasive, all results are confidential and tests are conducted by medical professionals.
Any student who refuses to take a drug test when randomly selected will be barred from extracurricular activities or have their campus parking permit taken away.
School and district officials say the purpose of these drug tests is to protect students and promote a drug-free environment.
The students who test positive for drugs or alcohol will be suspended from campus activities and required to complete community service. They will also be retested on every random test date for the remainder of the school year.
While these students are subject to disciplinary action, they won't be penalized academically.
The random drug testing will begin later this month, after parents have signed consent forms for their students. Only students who participate in extra-curricular activities or carry a parking permit are subject to random drug tests. Parents with students who do not participate in extra-curricular activities can also sign a voluntary consent form that allows their student to participate in drug testing at no cost.
