A man alledgedly carjacked an SUV, and then led Abilene Police on a two and a half hour high speed chase through the Key City and beyond. The second victim was robbed of a 2008 GMC Yukon with Texas plates, and that is when the suspect led Abilene Police on a pursuit and wouldn't stop for officers, so the officers backed off of the individual. Now on the 1400 block of Mesquite, the suspect was located in a residence, he fled the scene in the vehicle he stole earlier. As he fled, he hit two vehicles parked around the residence. The suspect was able to evade APD and headed east on Interstate 20. The suspect finally ran out of gas and surrendered by exit 343 on I-20 in Eastland. During the chase, Clyde, Baird, Cisco, Eastland and Abilene Police were involved, along with Taylor County Deputy Sheriffs.
The crimewave all started on the 3300 Block of Treadaway when a middle-aged black man wearing a red shirt, robbed a victim of her purse.
We caught up with some of the individuals and there reaction to the whole thing.
"I was sitting on the porch and the car came through, hit this car, police started chasing him, hit that car, went that way, went back that way," the witness said. "Police cars came all though here, [the suspect] almost hit my grandma's car. I guess he got away."
"I just heard a crash and got up, came out and looked," another witness said. "'Here's my truck, somebody ran into it.' I don't know who it is or what's going on."
The suspect, who was from Colorado City, was arraigned in Callahan County on Thursday, and will be charged in Abilene the following Friday.
