It was supposed to be a routine traffic stop for one Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy, but he turned out to be the accident. It happened about 4:15 this morning, just east of Merkel.
Officer Richard Vidarri was on Interstate 20 making a traffic stop when a 75 year-old women ran into the back of his patrol car.
Ironically, Vidarri stopped the women just a few hours earlier for driving wrecklessly.
This type of incident happens, but now with a new video system in place, and the officers being trained to use it. The Sheriff's Office is ready to use the system in the near future.
"With the new camera system that is being installed at this time, their doing training today in fact," Sergeant John Cummins said. "They will be able to use that, if there is an accident, plus we will have some protective casing. All the officersare really positive about having it, and looking forward to having an opportunity to use it."
