Mrs Bairds Bakery announced this week that it will close its Waco plant. That move could mean additional responsibilities for workers in Abilene. According to the Star-Telegram, up to 90 production jobs will be eliminated by mid-April. The weekly production of 200,000 packages of bread and buns in Waco will be transferred between Abilene, Fort Worth, and San Antonio.
That publication reports new workers likely wont be hired. Instead, current employees will be restruction to increase output at the three other plants.
Mrs Boards got its start in 1908 when Ninnie Baird began baking bread for neighbors in her Fort Worth neighborhood.
Mrs Bairds is now a division of Bimbo Bakeries USA, the Fort Worth-based subsidiary of Mexico-based Grupo Bimbo, one of the worlds leading baking companies.
