Interstate 20 Construction Update

By: Chris Whited, KRBC News
Updated: January 19, 2009
Travelers along Interstate 20 across Abilene will soon have an easier commute. The Texas Department of Transportation will re-open the west-bound lanes along Interstate 20 at the intersection with the Winters Freeway in the next few weeks. The lanes have been closed while crews rebuild the bridge and repaved the freeway.

Public Information Officer Mary Beth Kilgore with the Abilene district for TxDOT tells KRBC News the "we [TxDOT] expect those lanes to be opened the last week of January or the first week of February and once that opens there is still clean-up things to do, little things, The main thing is we want to get those lanes open. " Kilgore says this will also help re-open the south-bound exit for drivers to access the Winters Freeway and avoid the detours.
