Sheriff Bruce Goes Before The Court

Updated: January 20, 2009

Just 20 days into his new job as Taylor County Sheriff, Less Bruce, The former Abilene Police Officer, has gone before the Taylor County Commissioners Court, for the first time as Sheriff.

He was there to get approval on a few positions changes; one on his patrol unit, and another at the Taylor County Jail.

As far as patrol goes, Sheriff Bruce told the commissioners court even before he was elected Sheriff, one of the concerns he was hearing from those out in the county was the coverage in the county by the sheriff's department.

The Sheriff is making changes, like going from four 10 hour shifts on the patrol division, to five 8 hour shifts.

He is also adding the position of Fill-In Sgt. to the division; all to try and cover more of the county.

At the jail, which is now undergoing state inspection, he has appointed a new jail administrator and created another administrative position there.

That move was approved by the Taylor County Court during the Sheriff's visit.

Also, during the meeting today the Sheriff told the court it is the morale of the department which weighs heavily into each decision he is making as Sheriff.

He says he feels the morale in the department is rising and he wants that to continue.
