The Abilene Police Department is concerned with the rise in the number of DWI incidents which occurred over the last year. In 2008, an average of 48 arrests were made per-month, with a total of 585 DWI arrests made withing the year.
This is quite a rise in incidents from 2007 which totaled 477.
APD implemented their first two "No Refusal Weekends" this year, taking place on New Years Eve and Labor Day weekend.
The result of these operations were 12 search warrants being written and executed.
Sgt. Shackleford, of the Abilene Police Department emphasizes that these numbers reflect the concern the APD has for Abilene citizens.
"Simply," Shackleford states in a press release, "we want people to make it home safely."
"Please, don't drink and drive."
