ACU's Hunter Welcome Center Complete

By: Pete Koehn
Updated: January 20, 2009
Near the main entrance of Abilene Christian University, on the east side of campus, the Hunter Welcome Center stands complete.

The 57,000 square-foot facility will house university deparments such as admissions, alumni relations, career services and events management.

The center will also include meeting facilities available for use by campus groups and the Abilene community.

The center is named for Dr. Robert D. and Shirley Hunter. Dr. Hunter is a distinguished alumnus of ACU; formerly serving as a Texas State Representative and recognized for his lifelong contributions to the Abilene community and higher education in the state of Texas.

“It is our fervent hope that countless people will be well-served through the years by the many programs which will be housed in this great addition to our campus,” said Hunter.

“Shirley and I are deeply humbled and very grateful to President Royce Money and the Board of Trustees for this totally unexpected recognition. Of course, we wish to thank so many wonderful donors, including members of our family, who have so generously given to make this magnificent Welcome Center possible,” Hunter said.

An open house is planned for the last week in February to allow Abilene residents to tour the new building.
