"I never thought I would live to see this day," said James Francis of the Daniels Senior Center.
The inauguration of President Obama has local African-American seniors both excited and proud. Those at the G.V. Daniels Senior Center watched as the first African-American president in the nation's history took office. Not only were these seniors taken aback by the inauguration of President Obama but also by the unity they see in people of all races.
Nelson Wilson of the Daniels Senior Center said, "This is great for America. It's bringing us together. We are truly now a United States of America."
The atmosphere at the Daniels Senior Center today was nothing short of exhilarating.
"It's like a kid's birthday party. It was exciting, joyous, and jubilant, which is great. I think there were some tears shed today over the historic event," Wilson said.
They followed up the inaugural speech with a game of dominoes.
