Death Penalty Sought Against "Closet Killer"

The Taylor County District Attorney announced in Wednesday morning he will be seeking the death penalty in an up-and-coming capital murder case.

Samuel Brent Conner, 21, is accused of killing Teresa Stegemoeler, 35. whose body was found stuffed in the bedroom closet of her apartment at the Quadrangle Apartments complex on South 14th Street in Abilene.

Police say Conner admitted to sexually assaulting and murdering Stegemoeller.

Wednesday, at the hearing, Conner's defense team, the West Texas Regional Public Defenders for Capital Murders Office, filled close to 60 pretrial motions, including one for a change of venue.

The Judge in the 42nd did not rule on the motion, saying they would take the matter up at a later date.
