 Thursday 10 a.m. Update
The grass fire burned nearly 300 acres as firefighters worked for two to three days to control the hot spots.

The two men involved were welding a fence post. Due to dry conditions, the fire spread quickly.

The fire surrounded several nearby homes but did not cause them any damage.

Wednesday 7 p.m. Update
A grass fire broke out  Wednesday outside of Eula.  It began East of Highway 36 on County Road 228 just before noon.  Officers say the fire was caused by a man welding outside.  Due to dry conditions and wind, the fire spread rapidly, consuming roughly between 250-300 acres of land.

Firefighters from Eula, Potosi, Clyde, Baird and Buffalo Gap worked to battle the blaze.  The fire was finally put out just before 5 p.m.  Firefighters continued dousing the area with water hours later to put out any remaining hot spots.

As far as the firefighters know, no homes or structures caught fire, but several were at risk for smoke damage.
