Departments Battle Large Blaze

watch video
Officials say the blaze started near County Road 228 near Eula and quickly spread to Highway 603 by County Road 226.

Many Volunteer Fire Departments helped in fighting the blaze, including Baird, Potosi, Hamby, and Eula.

Several fire trucks went back and forth refilling with water, trying to get the flames under control.

Firefighters and Deputies evacuated homeowners as they tried to contain the flames.

Many homeowners waited nervously to see if their homes were burned by the fire.

One resident said she grabbed what was most important to her, her medications and her photographs, loaded her truck and evacuated.

Another resident pulled up in rush trying to get to his home to rescue his pets. Police allowed him to walk to his home to get his two dogs.

Fire Officials don't know how the fire started and although there was still thick smoke, the fire was under controll around 5:30pm and firefighters were monitoring hot spots.
