An Abilene City Council meeting, in regards to a downtown revitalization plan, will be held January 22nd at City Hall.

The comprehensive plan for an infill area was approved a few years ago, and tomorrow's meeting will discuss the plan extensively and focus on a specific area such as downtown Abilene.

Edward McRoy, assistant director in the planning and development services, says the city will use incentives to drive people to the area.

"Ultimately, permit fee reductions are apart of the picture," McRoy said. "We are also looking at potentially creating empowerment zones. That would allow the city to provide tax incentives."

North downtown is the main infill area the city is looking at right now, but isn't the only one that will be looked at in the future.

Again, the time of the city council meeting is tomorrow, January 22 at 8:30 PM.
