TRAFFIC ALERT: I-20 Closures

By: Austin Kellerman
Updated: January 26, 2009
The north and south frontage roads of I-20 between Judge Ely Blvd and SH 351 will be closed beginning Monday, January 26 through Friday, January 30 and possibly into the first week of February, Dwayne Justice, Abilene District’s Taylor County supervisor, said today.

As the frontage roads are only two lanes, Justice said that for the safety of the traveling public as well as for the road construction crew, the roads need to be closed so Texas Department of Transportation maintenance forces can repair base failures to the pavement.

Detoured traffic will still be able to access businesses in the area. For example, shoppers who usually access businesses from the north frontage road will be able to do so by using the entrance off of SH 351.

Closures will be in affect during daylight hours only, Justice said.
