Tragedy strikes a Lubbock family after four members die in a late night car accident.

DPS troopers tell the NBC affiliate in Lubbock that the accident happened south of Abilene just after 9 p.m. Friday night. The call came in at 9:05 Friday night. Troopers rushed to State Highway 153, seven miles southeast of Winters.

When DPS arrived they found two vehicles, a Sedan and a pick-up were on fire. Authorities say 28-year-old David Hernandez of Bangs, Texas, died in the accident. Investigators say he was driving the pick-up. They determined Hernandez was headed westbound when he swerved into the eastbound lane and hit the Sedan. 35 year-old Dion Lamont Thomson, his 4 year-old daughter Keyonna, along with Thompsons father 57 year-old George Willie Thompson, and Georges wife 47 year-old Patricia Ann Johnson also died. They were in the sedan. Investigators have not determined who was driving.

Due to the fires, authorities could not tell if anyone was wearing a seatbelt. DPS informed the NBC affiliate in Lubbock the pick-up ended up on its top, and the Sedan came to rest in a bar ditch.
