 3:27am Update
Wintry precipitation has ended but roads are treacherous, reports the National Weather Service in San Angelo.

"Roads, bridges and overpasses remain extremely icy and hazardous this morning across West Central Texas," the special weather statement released at 3:27 a.m. Wednesday said.

By 7:30 a.m., Abilene Police had only responded to one accident.

Cold temperatures have refrozen the roadways and conditions will remain icy and dangerous until temperatures rise above freezing, which is expected to happen at noon, according to KTAB Meteorologist Dan Edwards.

The sleet and freezing rain that fell overnight created traction above the ice, making the roads easier to navigate for the earliest morning commuters.  As that sleet is crushed by more cars, the roads will become more slick and dangerous.

The following counties are included in the special weather statement:

TAYLOR
CALLAHAN
COLEMAN
BROWN
FISHER
NOLAN
STERLING
COKE
RUNNELS
IRION
TOM GREEN
CONCHO
CROCKETT
SCHLEICHER
SUTTON
HASKELL
THROCKMORTON
JONES
SHACKELFORD
MCCULLOCH
SAN SABA
MENARD
KIMBLE
MASON

Update 1:26pm
From Meteorologist Randy Turner

The current temperature in Abilene is 21.  We should stay below freezing through 9am Wednesday, if not a little longer.  Forecast models are projecting our best chance of additional precipitation of freezing rain, sleet and snow flurries to fall between sunset tonight and 4am Wednesday.

Interestingly enough, it rapidly pushes the system out of our area by mid-day tomorrow with sunshine for the afternoon and temperatures climbing above 50 by the end of the day Wednesday, melting our mess.

Nothing heavy in our viewing area as of now, but a band of moisture from Lubbock to Hobbs is moving east.
