A far-reaching winter storm is cutting an icy slice into the country's midsection.

It stretches from east of the Rockies all the way to the eastern shore.

From the mid-south to Maine, this winter storm is knocking over trees, knocking out power, and knocking drivers off roadways.

It's rain falling in Oklahoma City but freezing fast challenging even veteran truckers.

"It's going to be rough, I’m just going to take my time. I'm not going to make all my deliveries on time. I know that," said truck driver Joe Utley.

40,000 homes and businesses are without power in neighboring Arkansas.

Much of Kentucky has been hard hit, too.

Parts of Paducah look like an ice castle.

On top of the snow that fell in Louisville overnight sleet and freezing rain began piling up before daybreak.

In most of Ohio, though it's snow that's falling; nearly nine inches in Cincinnati, a foot elsewhere.

Indiana's countryside has been blanketed in white, too.

And rough days lay ahead.

Temperatures won't get above freezing until Thursday in the mid-south and snow won't stop falling until the weekend in the northeast.
