Braving the Roads: A Bad Idea

State officials are advising drivers to avoid getting out on the road altogether. Just take a note from those who lost the battle against the icy roads today.
Michael Valez, who crashed his truck today, said, "I was doing about 40 or 45 on the freeway, and I guess I hit an icy spot in the road and turned, veering off into the median and into oncoming traffic, and I hit a trailer head on...I wouldn't advise driving on the highway today, or anywhere for that matter."
Highway patrolmen said earlier this afternoon, they had already seen about ten times more vehicle accidents than normal.
Police say many people default to cruise control on icy days to maintain a steady speed, but they are actually more likely to lose control while cruising.
There have been numerous accidents reported in Callahan County and near Anson, North and South on Highway 277.
