Kids Home Because Of School Closings Means Parents Take Off, Too

By: Katherine Lane
Updated: January 27, 2009
When Barbara Alonzo woke up this morning, she looked out the window and knew her kids would be home, which meant calling into work and telling her boss she was staying home too.

"I work for a really good company, so I knew it would be ok," Barbara said.

So she and her kids took this free day as an opportunity to catch up on some long-forgotten household tasks.

"We got a lot done today, stuff that we normally put off," Barbara said. We got time to just play with each other."

But she knows this day-off will set her back at the office.

"Ill be a little behind with inputting," Barbara said. "But it will be ok, Ill get caught up."

Barbara says falling behind at work was worth the extra time she got to spend with her kids.

"Weve been playing together enjoying just spending time together," Barbara said.
