The U.S. House passed an $825 billion economic stimulus bill yesterday, which includes $142 billion for school districts across the country.  Millions of dollars would come to ISDs in the Big Country, according to estimations by the Congressional Research Service.

No Republicans voted for the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid plans to open debate on the alternative 2009 stimulus plan Monday afternoon and have it approved by the end of the week.

The estimated grants allocated for school districts would be spread over a two-year period.  Abilene ISD would receive and estimated $13.8 million.  Specific amounts would be allocated to construction projects, technology, making facilities more environmentally friendly, teacher rewards, training and recruitment, and education for Title I and students with disabilities.
