Despite the recent icy weather, the Big Country is still at risk for grass fires in these dry conditions. On Friday, volunteer firefighters in Potosi worked quickly to keep a fire from spreading to nearby homes. A trash truck caught fire when garbage it had just picked up contained some hot fireplace ashes.
Chief Aaron Maxwell and the other volunteer fire fighters worked to contain the fire and even put out the flaming pile of trash on the road.
But he says with the way the last two weeks have gone, people still need to be careful in the dry conditions.
