By: Chris Whited, KRBC Meteorologist
Updated: February 2, 2009
Agricultural and hydrological drought conditions continue to worsen across the area as we start the month of February. Abilene officially ended the month of january with a rain deficit at eight-tenths of an inch, based on the climate data kept out at Abilene Regional Airport. The last good soaking rains to fall in this area were all the way back in mid-october.

All of the Big Country, as well as the Heartland and northern Concho Valley are currently categorized as under "severe" stage drought conditions according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. "Extreme Stage Drought" conditions have started to creep into the areas along the Colorado River from the southern areas of the Heartland.
