Transmitting the Big Country's wind power to other areas of the state is now one step closer to completion. Late last week the Texas Public Utility Commission awarded building contracts to seven state-based utilities who build network of tranmission lines across the state. The $5-billion grid project will give other areas of the Lone Star State access to the ample supply of clean wind energy produced in the Big Country and across West Texas. The next step is for those utilities to file a transmission line application to plan where the lines will be placed. The seven utilities chosen and price estimates are as follows:
Oncor - $1.34 Billion
Electric Transmission Texas - $789 Million
Lower Colorado River Authority - $750 Million
Lone Star Transmission - $564 Million
Wind Energy Transmission Texas - $402 Million
Sharyland Utilities - $394 Million
Cross Texas Transmission - $394 Million
