Higher Education 'Big Business' in Abilene

By: Laura Kellerman
Updated: February 3, 2009
The Abilene Chamber of Commerce hopes to prove how much money higher education brings to the city at a press conference Friday.

"Technical and junior colleges and private and public universities draw students and dollars to Abilene each year, generating jobs and enhancing the quality of life for regional residents," the chamber said in a press release.

A specially-formed committee gathered together the data to determine just how much of an economic impact the institutes make.

The findings will be released at a press conference Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, 147 Cypress St., Suite 200.
