Ready, Set, Home: Lower Your Heating and Cooling Costs

Almost everyone has had to deal with soaring energy costs, especially when it comes to cooling or heating your home, today the Ready Set Home crew is going to show you how to hang on to some of your hard earned money and make your home more comfortable at the same time.

Whenever you're blowing insulation in your attic, you don't want to blow insulation into the eaves that overhang the house. You still need a well-ventilated attic. Even in the wintertime you still need the air circulation to prohibit any unwanted moisture.

We bought baffles for less than $1.50 at our local home center. What you want to do with these is place them so that you're covering up the overhang. Just use a staple gun to attach this to the ceiling. Be sure there's still enough space so that you can get good circulation up there.

As you start blowing, start with the furthest distance away from you and then work it towards yourself.

Now if you were to hire someone to come out and do this project for you, you would spend easy $500 or more, depending on the size of your attic.  You can do it yourself for roughly $100. So you can see the savings, plus you're going to see savings every month on your utility bills.
