Reported by: Chris Whited, KRBC News Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @06:30pm CST Need a new drill for those home projects or what about a new strand of Christmas lights for the tree? Home Depot has a solution that not only helps the environment but also helps your wallet. A drill recycling program is one offer that gives customer an added bonus.
Travis Humphreys, an assistant manager at the Abilene store, told KRBC News that "you bring in any drill, working or not working, and you drop it off and we give you a coupon for 15-percent off a new lithium powered drill. Lithium is lighter, its not alkaline like the old batteries. The old drills, instead of putting it into the trash or discarding it in some other way, you bring it here and we ship it off to a recycling plant and they take of it from there." Since the drill exchange program kicked off last month the Abilene store has collected about 30-drills for recycling. This is the first time the company has offered drill trade-ins. Another recycling program involving Christmas lights is back for a second year. "We're trying to get people to turn in their old lights, They don't have to be working either and for each strand you bring in you'll get a $3.00 coupon for a new set of LED lights, " Humphreys explained. LED lights use a single bulb and emit light through the strands. They last ten times longer and produce less heat. These two offers are just an example of ways the home improvement store is looking to clean up our environment. Customers can take advantage of the drill trade-in through Sunday, November 8 while the Christmas light trade-in runs until Sunday, November 15th. Related Links: |
