    Hendrick Health Systems announces
    $80 million hospital expansion - Project 2010

Hendrick Medical Center announced plans on August 5th, 2008 for an $80 million expansion project, called Project 2010. The project is the largest expansion in the hospital’s 84-year history and will re-shape the Hendrick campus through new facilities and extensive upgrades to a number of existing patient and support areas.

Core components of Project 2010 include: a new four-story patient tower with new surgery facilities, labor and delivery and Hendrick Children’s Hospital; a new physician office building; and a canopy-covered entrance and lobby.

“As we look to the future of healthcare in our region, we strive to be the medical hub for residents of the Texas Midwest,” said Tim Lancaster, president and CEO of Hendrick Health System. “Project 2010 allows us to extensively expand our ability to provide comprehensive healthcare services to this region.”

Additional components to Project 2010 include: a dialysis unit, a wound care center, an infusion clinic, a two-story parking structure and an expanded lobby area. Overall, Project 2010 features 200,000 square feet of new construction and 38,000 square feet allocated to upgrades in renovated space.

At the heart of Project 2010 are new facilities for Hendrick Children’s Hospital. The new children’s hospital will have larger patient rooms, three pediatric intensive care units, two playrooms, two family rooms, chemotherapy rooms and an outdoor terrace.

Through the generosity of the Berenstain family, the new children’s hospital will feature décor from The Berenstain Bears book series. Each patient room in the children’s hospital will be personalized with colorful designs from one of the more than 200 Berenstain Bears books.

“We believe by taking care of children, we will be taking care of the community’s future,” said Lancaster.

In the mediaplayer below is a 16 minute video which aired on KRBC TV which outlines the history of the Hendrick Health System and this ambitious plan for the future.
